Introduction

The Student Support and Scientific Leadership Unit at the College of Nursing was established by Resolution No. 290 in the College Council’s meeting, session No. 18, held on 12/11/2019, It is located on the ground floor of the college and is affiliated with the Vice Dean for Education and Student Affairs.

Unit Vision

The Student Support and Scientific Leadership Unit at the Faculty of Nursing, Sohag University, seeks to lead in creating a motivating and supportive university environment for developing performance and sponsoring student excellence and superiority to qualify an integrated university student.

Unit Mission

The unit is committed to providing appropriate academic, health and social care for students, developing the level of talented and superior students, and raising the level of struggling students. By increasing their awareness of ways to overcome academic and personal problems, and working to raise their scientific and intellectual capabilities that will achieve academic and social excellence for them, and to consolidate the relationship between faculty members and students in line with the strategic goals of the college.

Unit Objectives:

1- Applying quality standards and specifications in modern education systems to serve the educational process.

2- Awareness of students about the importance of unit and its role in helping students solve any problems they may encounter while reducing the chances of academic stumbling through preventive counselling.

3- Creating a suitable scientific and social environment for students within the college.

4- Caring and helping students socially, healthily, psychologically and financially.

5- Benefiting from the distinguished experiences of the faculty members of the college and employing them in helping the struggling students and taking care of the superior and creative students.

6- Supporting communication and dialogue between students and faculty members.

7- Providing students with correct information about the college, educational policies, resources and the study program.

8- Taking care of stumbling students, taking care of them, and following them up until they rise to their academic level.

9- Providing distinguished support and care for excellence and creative students in the college, enhancing their abilities and supporting their creativity financially and morally.

Formation of the Student Support and Scientific Leadership Unit:

The functional structure of the Student Support and Scientific leadership Unit consists of the unit’s board of directors

Prof/Dean of the College: Chairman of the Board of Directors

Vice Dean for Education and Student Affairs: Supervisor of the unit

Director of the Student Support and Scientific Leadership Unit: Executive Director of the Unit’s work

The role of the Student Support Unit and Scientific Leadership:

1- Spreading awareness among students about the nature of the unit, its importance, and how to benefit from its services, through meetings, flyers, and the college’s website.

2- Introducing students to the unit’s vision and mission.

3- Introducing students to the college’s goals and mission, its educational programs, its scientific departments, the study and examination system, the fields of work of its graduates, and the aspects of care and services it provides.

4- Organizing guidance and orientation programs to introduce the study system to new students.

5- Supporting academically superior students through the available mechanisms.

6- Taking what is necessary to raise the level of troubled students and finding solutions to their academic and social problems.

7- Developing a mechanism to receive student complaints, consider them, respond to them, follow up on those complaints, and suggest appropriate solutions as soon as possible.

Specializations of the head of the unit’s board of directors:

1- The dean of the college issues a decision appointing the executive director of the unit

2- Calling for periodicity and emergency meetings of the unit.

3- Supervising the unit plan

4- Following up on the implementation of the unit’s objectives

Duties of the unit supervisor: Vice Dean for Education and Student Affairs

1- General supervision of the unit.

2- Following up on plan reports and following up on unit work

3- Evaluating and approving the activities and programs issued by the unit.

Duties of the Executive Director of the Unit:

1- Determining the functional tasks of the unit members.

2- Developing a plan for student support and scientific leadership in the college.

3- Preparing a periodic report that includes the unit’s work.

4- Directing students to the appropriate place that can solve their problems and transfer cases that require transfer to specialized bodies.

5- Organizing training courses and workshops for students in various fields to refine their knowledge and develop their skills.

6- Preparing periodic reports on the work progress of the unit and its achievements.

7- Suggesting and presenting targeted and orientation programs.

8- Studying academic problems and taking the necessary measures to remedy them.

9- Following up the implementation of the unit’s work tasks.
